The hospital’s CEO, Martin Wafula, disclosed that the mothers had accrued a combined bill of KSh 987,345.
To address this, the hospital paid KSh 120,000 to enroll the patients in the SHA program, which will cover their outstanding bills and provide them with health insurance.
“The bill of the 25 was KSh 987,345. We decided to pay for them SHA at a cost of KSh 120,000 and help them understand why they need it. SHA will clear their outstanding bill,” Wafula stated.
The SHA cover ensures that the discharged mothers will have access to affordable healthcare for the next year.
According to Wafula, the hospital is also educating patients about the benefits of SHA to help them manage their medical expenses.
“We have explained to them why SHA is important so that they understand that with it, you can clear your bill with ease,” Wafula emphasized.
Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has also started SHA registration and educational programs to encourage patients to enroll, ensuring a more sustainable approach to handling medical bills.
This initiative is part of the hospital’s broader efforts to provide accessible healthcare while addressing the financial challenges faced by patients.
