In a compelling phone interview on Radio Vuna, Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity, a respected human rights activist and former Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union, has called for the removal of both President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Dr. Kinity asserts that Kenya’s ongoing political crisis and economic struggles are deeply rooted in the leadership of the current administration, and that removing the two top leaders is essential for the country’s recovery.

Dr. Kinity, who has long been a voice for human rights and good governance, sharply criticized both Ruto and Gachagua for allegedly mismanaging public funds and engaging in corrupt practices.

He highlighted the recent controversy surrounding Gachagua’s claim that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) had been emptied by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, a statement that was swiftly refuted by the CBK.

This, Dr. Kinity suggested, raises concerns about the integrity of the current government.

“There is a high probability that the money left by Uhuru, which could have sustained the country for 4 months, has been misused by the Ruto-Gachagua administration,” Dr. Kinity said during the interview.

While Gachagua faces potential impeachment, Dr. Kinity warned that removing the deputy president alone would not solve the country’s problems.

He argued that the power struggle between President Ruto and Gachagua is more about their internal conflicts than addressing the needs of ordinary citizens.

According to Dr. Kinity, their battle for control is hurting the nation and has nothing to do with improving the lives of Kenyans.

“Impeaching Gachagua alone won’t change anything for Kenyans. The real problem is President Ruto. This fight between them has no benefit for the common mwananchi,” Dr. Kinity stated, urging citizens to focus on pushing for the removal of both leaders from office.

Dr. Kinity went on to explain that the decision by President Ruto to strip Gachagua of his official duties, handing them to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, was a clear sign of growing tension within the government. He dismissed any notion that opposition leader Raila Odinga is involved in this internal power struggle, saying, “Raila has nothing to do with the impeachment of Gachagua. The conflict was started by Ruto himself.”

Additionally, Dr. Kinity criticized Parliament for being complicit in the president’s agenda.

He argued that many youthful MPs are being used as “rubber stamps” to advance Ruto’s plans, including the impeachment of Gachagua. He expressed concern that should Gachagua be removed, tribal divisions may arise as different communities seek to have their representative fill the position.

“The best way forward for Kenya is to remove not just the deputy president, but the president and MPs as well. This is the only way to save the country from further harm,” Dr. Kinity urged.

He called on the country’s youth, particularly Generation Z protesters, not to relent in their demand for President Ruto’s removal, arguing that this would trigger a chain reaction that would result in the complete overhaul of the current leadership.

Kenya has been grappling with a rising cost of living, food insecurity, and growing frustration among farmers over high production costs.

Dr. Kinity argued that under the leadership of Ruto and Gachagua, there is little hope for improvement in these areas, adding that a fresh, transparent leadership is necessary to bring the country back on track.
