Dr. Kinity: Kenya Cannot Grow While Losing Kshs 2 Billion Daily to Corruption
Read Time:1 Minute, 40 Second

Kenya is losing Kshs 2 billion every day to corruption — a staggering figure that has remained unchanged for years, threatening the nation’s economic future.
This shocking reality was first admitted publicly by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021 and was recently reiterated in 2025 by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, who warned that the country could repay its external debts if corruption was cut by at least half.
For Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity , Counselor, Human Rights Activist, Chairman of the Kikimo Foundation for Corruption and Poverty Eradication, and former Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union, this is not just a number. It is the face of a nation bleeding resources that could transform lives.
“Recycling the same corrupt leaders will prolong the daily loss of Kshs 2 billion to corruption, heighten unemployment, and worsen poverty and suffering,” said Dr. Kinity.
He challenged Kenyans to reflect on the devastating impact of their electoral choices: “When will the economy grow when Kshs 2 billion disappears daily? When will the youth get jobs? When will poverty, suffering, and premature deaths end if we keep re-electing the same looters every cycle?”
Dr. Kinity warned that as long as Kenyans continue to recycle corrupt leaders, the country will remain trapped in a vicious cycle of theft, borrowing, and underdevelopment.
According to him, the Kshs 2 billion lost daily translates to over Kshs 730 billion annually — enough to revolutionize healthcare, create industries, build schools, and modernize infrastructure.
His remarks come at a time when Kenyans are grappling with a high cost of living, massive unemployment, and ballooning public debt. CS Mbadi’s recent remarks echoed the same concerns raised four years ago, but no significant change has been realized.
Dr. Kinity now calls for a bold stand by both leaders and citizens: systemic reforms, real accountability, and an end to the culture of rewarding corruption at the ballot box.
