Dr. Kinity: Why Trump’s presidency will bring relief to Kenyans facing economic hardship and human rights abuses

In the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election, Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity, a Kenyan-born member of the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) presidential advisory board since 2016, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Trump.
Dr. Kinity, who also serves as a counselor and human rights activist, issued a statement expressing hope that Trump’s administration will foster positive changes in Kenya’s socio-political landscape.
In his statement, Dr. Kinity attributed Trump’s win to a “fair and free election process” and emphasized that the victory brings relief not only to Americans but also to Kenyans who, according to him, have been grappling with escalating economic hardship and alleged governance issues under President William Ruto’s administration.
Citing Kenya’s ongoing struggles, Dr. Kinity highlighted that rampant corruption and alleged mismanagement of public funds, including international loans and grants, have compounded the cost of living, impacting “infants, small children, and their mothers.”
Dr. Kinity further claimed that under Ruto’s leadership, Kenyans have been subjected to an alleged increase in extrajudicial killings, pointing to reported incidences involving youth, notably the June 4 massacre of “Gen Z” activists who had mobilized in protests against government policies.
He believes Trump’s foreign policy will diverge from that of his predecessor, Joe Biden, and offer renewed hope to Kenyans by applying pressure on the Ruto administration to curb extrajudicial killings and combat corruption.
“I am fully convinced that Donald Trump’s foreign policy will not only positively transform Kenya but will also positively change politics and living conditions for many in other developing nations,” Dr. Kinity stated.
He expressed hope that the new administration would intervene in support of Kenyan citizens’ rights, asserting that the Biden administration and the US Ambassador to Kenya had previously failed to hold the Kenyan government accountable.
The human rights activist’s remarks reflect deep concern over what he describes as the “pathetic political and economic situation in Kenya.”
He pledged to leverage his position on the RNC board to advocate for US intervention, aiming to address both the humanitarian and political crises facing Kenya.
He concluded his statement with a commitment to “do all I can on my part, even if it will mean meeting Donald Trump personally to discuss the matter, in order to help Kenyans.”
Dr. Kinity’s comments align with his longstanding advocacy for government accountability and transparency, dating back to his time as Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union.
Now residing in Connecticut, USA, he remains a vocal critic of Kenya’s leadership, particularly on issues of governance and human rights.
Dr. Kinity’s statement comes as President Ruto’s government continues to face mounting criticism over its economic policies and alleged human rights abuses.
