The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has this afternoon arrested a Nakuru County Enforcement Officer on allegations of soliciting a bribe from a motorist.
The anti-graft’s South Rift Regional Manager, Mr Ignatius Wekesa, while confirming the arrest, said his officers conducted the successful operation following many complaints by motorists.
Mr Patrick Njuguna reportedly demanded a bribe in exchange for unclamping a Toyota Probox vehicle registration number KDA 927N, which was parked in Nakuru’s Central Business District (CBD).
Immediately after the arrest, Mr Njuguna was taken to the commission’s Nakuru offices at the Assumption Center for processing and further investigation.
“The suspect was subjected to further investigations at our offices before being booked at the Central Police Station a few minutes past 6pm,” Wekesa said.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by the EACC to combat corruption and enforce accountability among public officials in Kenya.
The arrest is part of a broader crackdown aimed at ensuring that county officers and other public servants adhere to ethical standards and legal obligations.
Already, 14 county employees, among them Chief Officer for Sports, Mr Alex Maina, have been summoned by the EACC to shed light on the procurement of substandard sports equipment that led to the loss of public funds amounting to millions.
As investigations continue, the EACC has reiterated its commitment to upholding transparency and integrity in public service, urging citizens to report any instances of corruption or misconduct.
The public is closely watching for further developments in this case, which may set a precedent for how similar incidents are handled in the future.
The suspect will be arraigned tomorrow morning.
