Two senior students from Egerton University are under investigation after being caught impersonating administrative officers in Njoro. The students, identified as Brian Munene and Weldon Kiberenge, are accused of using forged seals from the offices of the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) and the Njoro Chief to stamp forms for incoming first-year students.

According to Njoro Deputy County Commissioner David Mbevi, the duo was apprehended by university security after they were discovered charging new students KSh 1,500 for the unauthorized service. The students reportedly claimed they were working with individuals who provided them with the stamps, intending to share the profits.

“The two were pretending to be from the chief’s and DCC’s office, exploiting first-year students who needed official stamps on their forms,” said DCC Mbevi. “The police are investigating the situation to determine how they obtained the stamps and who else may be involved.”

Egerton University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, confirmed the arrest, stating that the students had taken advantage of their younger peers. He also mentioned that, after the police conclude their investigation, the students would face disciplinary action from the university.

It remains unclear how many students fell victim to the scheme before the suspects were caught. As of the latest update, local authorities were considering releasing the students on cash bail, though the investigation will continue.
