Former Kapkures Member of County Assembly (MCA) Paul Kimutai and his associate Richard Kipngeno have been sentenced to pay a total fine of Sh550,000 after being found guilty of fraud and forgery involving a Sh30 million land scam in Mbarut, Nakuru County.
Senior Resident Magistrate Priscah Nyotah delivered the sentencing on Tuesday, ordering the duo to pay Sh150,000 each for the first, second, and third counts, and Sh100,000 for the fourth count. In default, they will serve their sentence over a period of 12 months.
Kimutai and Kipngeno were convicted last week for illegally acquiring a 6.6-hectare plot from its rightful owner, Josiah Njoroge. The court found that they forged a family agreement in 2010, a title deed in 2012, and a green card to support the fraudulent transfer of the property.
During sentencing, Magistrate Nyotah reiterated that the prosecution had presented a strong, logical, and credible case, while the defense failed to provide a convincing argument.
The two have been granted the right to appeal the ruling. However, the verdict is seen as a significant step in tackling fraudulent land dealings in Nakuru County.
