The leader of the One Kenya coalition, Raila Odinga, has issued a fiery warning to the ruling government, asserting that the clock is ticking for dialogue with Azimio and Kenya Kwanza.
Odinga declared during the burial of a victim of police brutality, David Omondi Oswayo, that if no resolution is reached by October 30, the opposition will unleash a disruptive strategy against the government’s operations.
“We’ve set a deadline until October 30, 2023, for the government to engage in constructive dialogue with us. If they fail, we’re ready to ignite massive protests in September,” Odinga declared passionately.
Amidst emotional scenes, Raila emphasized the need for unconditional dialogue to restore order in the country.
He vehemently criticized Deputy President Ruto, accusing him of resorting to violent tactics against Azimio and its leadership.
“Taking lives won’t silence us. It only fuels our determination to fight for the rights and respect of every tribe in this nation,” Raila stated firmly.
Wielding a stern warning, Odinga underscored that if the talks collapse, the Azimio coalition won’t hesitate to fight back, even against the police, and pursue justice for the fallen protesters.
“We’ve collected evidence of police brutality, including identities and photos of those involved. We’ll petition locally and internationally for justice,” he pledged.
Furthermore, Odinga refuted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s analogy of Kenya as a company owned by shareholders, asserting that all Kenyans are stakeholders through their taxes.
“Kenya isn’t owned by shareholders. If anyone thinks they don’t have a stake, they’re welcome to leave. We won’t retreat; we’re committed to the cause,” he added defiantly.
MP Otiende Amollo rallied the crowd, promising that the victims’ sacrifice won’t be in vain. “LSK, Amnesty, and a powerful team of 300 lawyers are gearing up to sue these officers,” he assured.
