Read Time:1 Minute, 48 Second

Schoolgirls, educators, and local leaders in Nakuru County took to the streets on the International Day of the Girl, advocating for gender equality and emphasizing the crucial role of girls in driving positive change.

The initiative, led by CECM Josephine Achieng of Gender, Sports, and Social Services, aimed to raise awareness about the rights of the girl child, particularly focusing on the need for accessible sanitary pads.

A poignant moment during the event was when Mrs. Achieng stated, “As the directorate of gender, we have made sure that there is a budget in the sensitization on the sanitary pads to our girls.”

Prominent organizations like the Rotary Club of Nakuru and the Heart joined hands in this noble cause, emphasizing the urgency of supporting vulnerable girls.

Mr. Yegon, President of the Rotary Club of Nakuru, urged, “We are calling upon the county Government and other organizations to come together and support the girl child cause they are vulnerable.”

Mrs. Powell of Heart shed light on their efforts, saying, “We noticed that some girls don’t get to complete their secondary school due to a lack of supplies. Thus, we, together with other partners, package and distribute sanitary towels and offer hygiene education to students.”

The campaign highlighted the pressing need to challenge gender stereotypes and provide equal opportunities to girls, ensuring they have the resources and support required to achieve their full potential.
