ODM Chairperson Gladys Atieno Wanga and Director of Elections Junet Mohamed have come under sharp scrutiny after ODM life member Hon. Tabitha Rachel issued a strongly-worded letter demanding public accountability over allegations that the party is being secretly “sold at State House.”

In the letter dated December 5, Hon. Tabitha Rachel challenges the two senior officials to explain claims made by political rivals alleging that unnamed ODM leaders have been holding clandestine meetings and receiving “deposits” in undisclosed political arrangements involving State House.

She says the silence of the top officials has only fuelled suspicion, eroded trust within the party, and undermined the hard-earned integrity of the ODM movement.

Cites Violations of ODM Constitution

Hon. Tabitha Rachel anchors her demand on specific clauses of the ODM Constitution, arguing that any political or financial negotiations conducted without authorization from the National Delegates Convention (NDC), the National Executive Committee (NEC), or the Parliamentary Group (PG) would amount to an outright breach of the party’s governing laws.

She highlights Article 6.2.2(b), which obligates party officials to uphold transparency and collective decision-making at all times, and Article 7.5, which prohibits any member or official from entering into negotiations or agreements on behalf of the party without formal NEC approval.

According to her, any secret dealings would violate the spirit and letter of these provisions, warning that ODM “is not a personal enterprise to be negotiated at night or traded for individual gain.”

Invokes Raila Odinga’s Legacy

Hon. Tabitha Rachel further frames the alleged dealings as a betrayal of the legacy and political philosophy of ODM’s founding leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.

She invokes Raila’s history of sacrifice, imprisonment, and dedication to democratic reform, saying any conduct that undermines transparency directly insults the values on which the party was built.

Questions Wanga’s Leadership Conduct

Her letter also delivers a pointed critique of Chairperson Gladys Wanga, insisting that she is not the Party Leader and must therefore operate strictly within the limits of her office.

Hon. Tabitha Rachel accuses Wanga of unilateral decision-making and ignoring previous calls to convene an NDC to elect a new Party Leader in line with the ODM Constitution.

She warns that such leadership behavior is inconsistent with the party’s democratic traditions and the expectations of its membership

Demands Public Clarification

Hon. Tabitha Rachel demands that the two officials publicly address whether they have engaged in political or financial negotiations on behalf of ODM without approval, whether they have received any deposits connected to the alleged dealings, who may have authorized any such engagements, and whether undisclosed negotiations are currently underway.

Issues Ultimatum of Resignation

She warns that if they fail to issue a written and public response within seven days, she will formally demand their immediate resignation from all ODM leadership positions for violating the party constitution, undermining internal democracy, betraying party ideals, and exhibiting conduct unbecoming of top officials.

Says ODM Belongs to Members, Not Individuals

Hon. Tabitha Rachel concludes by emphasizing that her intervention is driven by loyalty to the ODM movement and the duty to protect its founding principles.
