It was a day filled with emotion at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, as Violet, a former patient, returned to express her gratitude.

Having spent an entire month under the hospital’s care, her journey from the Labour Ward to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Newborn Unit (NBU), and finally Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) was a testament to the resilience of a mother and the dedication of the hospital staff.

Today, Violet, now holding her one-and-a-half-month-old baby, returned to say a heartfelt thank you.

Violet’s story began when she was referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and admitted to the Labour Ward with complications.

The situation required an emergency C-section, performed by the skilled medical team under the leadership of CEO Martin Wafula.

Following the delivery, her baby, too fragile to remain with her, was admitted to the NICU, where round-the-clock care and expertise gave the child a fighting chance.

Through unwavering commitment, the medical team supported Violet and her baby as they transitioned from the NICU to the Newborn Unit (NBU) and finally to Kangaroo Mother Care.

Here, Violet learned the importance of skin-to-skin bonding, which helped her baby thrive. Weeks later, the two were discharged, healthy and ready to embark on their journey home.

Today, as Violet made her way back to the hospital, she carried not just her baby but immense gratitude.

Nurse Jane, a compassionate and attentive member of the team, noticed Violet and instinctively offered to assist her with her luggage, assuming she had returned for medical attention.

Little did Jane know that Violet had come simply to say thank you.

Jane helped Violet to the Labour Ward, where it all began, only to discover that Violet’s visit was one of appreciation.

The moment was both humbling and uplifting for the staff, a reminder of the impact their care has on the lives of patients and their families.

At the heart of it all was CEO Martin Wafula, whose visionary leadership has transformed Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital into a beacon of hope for many.

His emphasis on compassionate care and medical excellence has cultivated a team that delivers outstanding outcomes, as evidenced by Violet’s story.

“May God bless her and her baby,” whispered one of the nurses, encapsulating the sentiments of the entire team.

Moments like these reaffirm the purpose of their work saving lives and creating stories of hope and resilience.
