For years, Kaptembwo Ward, particularly the infamous Mauki area has been marred by insecurity, joblessness, and the rise of criminal gangs.
Residents have lived in fear as organized crime and gang rivalries became the order of the day, leaving youth vulnerable to recruitment into violence.
Unemployment, coupled with a lack of meaningful opportunities, has made young people easy targets for gangs promising quick money and power.
Nakuru West has often made headlines for its rising prison population, a tragic outcome of systemic neglect.
However, amidst this grim reality, a group of resilient youth has chosen to fight back not with weapons but through art.
Mboka, a locally produced film set to premiere on 22nd December 2024 at Kaptembwo Primary Hall, explores the challenges of crime, betrayal, and justice in Nakuru.
The movie tells the story of two warring gangs—one led by Daya and the other by Brejin who unleash terror on Nakuru through organized crime. Their rivalry escalates to catastrophic levels, pushing the city into chaos.
Amidst the turmoil, Officer Lawrence, a determined police officer, takes on the daunting task of dismantling the gangs and restoring order.
However, his efforts are hampered by a corrupt system deeply entrenched in the police force, raising the question: Will justice prevail, or will the gangs continue to rule the streets?
The gripping plot mirrors the realities faced by communities like Kaptembwo, offering a raw and authentic reflection of life in areas plagued by crime.
Directed and produced by Frankline Tatam, Mboka is not just entertainment but a call to action highlighting the need for solutions and youth empowerment.
Makana’s support for the movie comes at a time when young people in Nakuru are desperate for opportunities.
He praised the production team for including cast members from various tribes, a reflection of Nakuru’s cosmopolitan nature.
“This is the kind of unity and creativity we need. These young people are showing us that talent can replace crime if given a chance,” Makana said.
The parliamentary hopeful also used the moment to caution youth against manipulative politicians who exploit their vulnerabilities during election campaigns.
“Do not let anyone buy your vote for 100 shillings. Demand real change—demand opportunities that will uplift you for the long term,” he urged.
The Mboka movie premiere is expected to draw audiences from across Nakuru. Tickets are priced at:
– Ksh 300(Advance)

The team behind Mboka believes their film can inspire change, challenging young people to channel their energy into positive endeavors.

“This is more than just a movie. It is our voice, our opportunity to rewrite the story of Kaptembwo and Nakuru as a whole.”
