Nakuru East parliamentary hopeful Benard Nguruna has received a major boost in his 2027 campaign after traders from Wakulima Market threw their weight behind his bid to succeed the incumbent, David Gikaria.
Nguruna, who held a meeting with the traders over the weekend, presented his 1-hour manifesto that largely focused on addressing the security challenges plaguing the constituency.
His plan includes improving street lighting, working closely with local authorities to curb crime, and establishing a community policing program that empowers traders and residents alike.
Beyond security, Nguruna outlined his broader vision for Nakuru East, touching on key sectors such as healthcare, education, and job creation.
He promised to push for the upgrading of local health facilities, ensuring affordable and accessible medical care for all residents.
“No one should lose their life because they couldn’t access medical care. We aim to improve our hospitals and ensure there is a steady supply of medicine,” said Nguruna.
On education, Nguruna emphasized the need for bursary programs to support students from underprivileged backgrounds while also advocating for better school infrastructure.
“Our children deserve quality education. I will oversee the proper allocation of school improvement funds and ensure every child has a chance to learn,” he added.
Job creation also featured prominently in his manifesto, with Nguruna vowing to support small businesses and create a conducive environment for investment.
He highlighted plans to introduce skills training programs for the youth and facilitate access to affordable loans for entrepreneurs.
The traders, led by their chairman Joseph Nganga, popularly known as Kibe, and association chairman Gerald Kilonzo expressed their confidence in Nguruna’s leadership and his vision for Nakuru East.
“Nguruna has really impressed us. He came here with a solid plan to ensure our security, improve healthcare services, and create job opportunities. We want someone who understands our struggles and is ready to solve them. As Wakulima Market traders, we have declared our support for him,” said Kibe.
Several traders also voiced their support, lauding Nguruna for engaging them directly and listening to their concerns. Jane Wanjiku, a vegetable vendor, said she believes Nguruna has what it takes to bring the much-needed change.
“We have faced security issues at the market, but Nguruna has assured us that he will address this. He also spoke about education and healthcare, and we trust him. We are tired of empty promises; we want action,” she said.
Another trader, Samuel Kiptoo, emphasized the need for a leader who values their input. “Nguruna came to listen to us, not just to talk at us. This shows that he genuinely cares about our needs,” he remarked.
Nguruna, in his address, assured the traders that their welfare would remain a top priority in his leadership. He pledged to not only address security but also push for better infrastructure within the market, including modern stalls and improved sanitation facilities.
“Nakuru East needs a leader who feels the pain of his people and stands with them. I am confident that together, we will bring real change,” said Nguruna.
The endorsement from Wakulima Market traders marks a significant milestone in Nguruna’s journey to clinch the Nakuru East parliamentary seat.
