Read Time:2 Minute, 32 Second

As the Senate prepares for a critical debate on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Keroche and Hon. Simon Chelungui have shared their views on the matter, emphasizing the importance of unity and development for the country.

Earlier today, Senator Karanja joined the congregation at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Shabab, Nakuru West Sub-county. While celebrating the church’s efforts in supporting the construction of the priest’s house and parish offices, the senator took the opportunity to address the upcoming Senate debate on the 11 charges against Deputy President Gachagua, which could potentially lead to his impeachment.

Senator Karanja, speaking to the faithful, called for prayers for both herself and the Senate as they prepare for what she described as a matter of great national importance. “As a representative of Nakuru, I will listen carefully, scrutinize all charges, and make a decision that prioritizes peace and unity, not just for Nakuru but for the entire country,” she remarked.

She was joined by Hon. Simon Chelungui, the former Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and Micro and Small Enterprises, who echoed the call for unity. Chelungui stressed the need to respect the will of the people and focus on the country’s development. “We must respect the will of the people and unite as a nation. The heart of the people is in development, and that is what we should be directing our energy toward,” he said.

This appearance followed a significant meeting held by Senator Karanja at her home the previous day. The meeting, which brought together opinion, community, and religious leaders, as well as youth, business representatives, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) from across Nakuru County, centered on various pressing issues, including national development and the transition from NHIF to SHIF. However, the impeachment of Deputy President Gachagua became a key topic of discussion.

During the meeting, participants voiced their concerns about the potential political ramifications of the Senate’s deliberations on the impeachment. Some leaders, representing Nakuru’s cosmopolitan population, advised the Deputy President to consider resigning voluntarily.

They argued that such a move would avert political tension and allow him to preserve his political future. “Riggy G,” as the Deputy President is affectionately known, was urged to step aside, with participants citing that this course of action would prevent a lengthy and divisive impeachment process, which could have far-reaching consequences on his political career.

Senator Karanja noted that Nakuru, being a melting pot of diverse communities, has always advocated for peace and inclusivity. She reiterated that she would carefully examine the charges before making her decision, but stressed that her focus would always be on ensuring peace, harmony, and development for Nakuru and Kenya as a whole. ” I will listen to the deliberations in the Senate and make a decision that promotes unity and stability.”
