Jembe Mpya Makana’s Rise: Why the Student Is Now the Greatest Threat to His Former Teacher (Hon Arama) in Nakuru Town West

Read Time:4 Minute, 16 Second
Honorable Robinas Makana

In Nakuru Town West, political tides are shifting. A once-loyal lieutenant is now emerging as the most serious challenger to a long-serving Member of Parliament. The story of Robinas Makana and Samuel Arama is no longer a quiet rivalry.

It has grown into a full-blown political moment that is capturing attention across the county and beyond. For over a decade, Makana worked under Arama’s wing.

He played a critical role in campaign strategy, voter mobilization, and constituency outreach. Many saw him as a future leader, molded by Arama himself.

But after serving in silence and gaining years of experience, Makana has now stepped forward to vie for the very seat his political teacher has held since 2013. Makana’s decision to run is rooted in both ambition and readiness.

He has spent years walking with the people, not just during election cycles but even in quiet seasons. He understands the challenges faced by residents of Kaptembwa, Rhonda, London, Kapkures and across all Nakuru  West wards all because he has been there, listening and engaging. His recent rise in political prominence came after an audio clip began circulating online.

In the clip, voices believed to be Makana and Democratic Congress Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua are heard addressing members of the Abagusii community living in Nakuru. Though the meeting was not publicly announced, the clip has sparked serious conversations. Gachagua appears to endorse unity among the community, while Makana articulates his vision with confidence.

The tone, chemistry, and content of the conversation have led many to believe that DCP could quietly be positioning Makana as its preferred candidate in Nakuru Town West.

Even though DCP has not formally declared its support, Gachagua’s association with Makana is already sending shockwaves through the constituency.

The idea that Makana could be riding on a new national party’s momentum is putting pressure on established political players, especially Arama.

Meanwhile, in what appears to be a response to Makana’s rising profile, a photo of Arama and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has begun making rounds on social media.

Shared mainly by bloggers allied to Arama, the photo is said to have been taken during a private meeting between the two. While no details have been provided about what was discussed, analysts believe it is a political signal, a move by Arama to show that he still has access to powerful networks and respected figures, especially within the Abagusii community.

This silent exchange of influence ,  Makana appearing alongside Gachagua through a leaked audio, and Arama being linked to Matiang’i via a shared photo , marks a new chapter in Nakuru’s politics.

It shows that the 2027 race is no longer just about development records or party popularity. It is now about symbolism, alliances, and perception. Makana’s approach is notably fresh.

He is not shouting or attacking his opponents. Instead, he is focusing on community engagement, youth mobilization, and service-driven leadership.

His supporters describe him as a grounded leader who has grown through the ranks. They point to his years of loyalty, his ability to organize, and his strong roots in the community.

In contrast, while Arama still enjoys support , there is a sense that his political rhythm is being challenged. After holding the seat for three terms, he is now facing competition not from an outsider, but from someone who understands his political style, knows his support bases, and speaks the same language as the people he has represented for years.

The emergence of DCP in Nakuru’s politics adds another layer to this contest. Gachagua’s move to establish a new political party has opened fresh political space for leaders who feel side-lined in UDA and other parties.

By appearing to favor Makana, DCP may be seeking to build influence in the Rift Valley ahead of 2027. If the relationship between Gachagua and Makana becomes official, it could completely alter the ground game in Nakuru Town West.

This contest is no longer just about youth versus experience. It is about the transformation of politics from patronage to purpose. Makana represents a generation of leaders who have grown within the system but are now seeking to improve it. He has chosen to challenge his teacher, not out of disrespect, but because he believes leadership must evolve.

As the ground continues to shift, one thing is clear that Robinas Makana is no longer a behind-the-scenes mobilizer but now a serious contender, backed by both grassroots strength and growing political attention. Whether DCP formally endorses him or not, the momentum is building. In politics, the student rarely gets a chance to confront the teacher on an equal playing field. But in Nakuru Town West, 2027 could be that rare moment. The voters will decide whether it is time to pass the torch, or to stick with familiarity.
