Judiciary Strikes Back: Demand for Truth as Citizen TV’s Swearing-in Story Falls Flat
Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second
In a dramatic turn of events, the Judiciary, led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, has called for a retraction from Citizen TV following a misleading report on the swearing-in of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS).
The news bulletin, aired on July 3, falsely claimed that the judiciary was involved in swearing in the 50 CAS, who were later barred from assuming office.
The Judiciary expressed its displeasure, emphasizing the importance of Citizen TV clarifying the report, which had apparently deceived the public and caused harm to the reputation of the judiciary.
The judges’ demand for a correction comes after the High Court’s ruling, led by Justices Kanyi Kimondo, Hedwing Ong’udi, and Visram Alnashir, nullified the CAS positions, deeming them unconstitutional.
Citizen TV’s report claimed that the High Court’s judgment redeemed the Judiciary from accusations of aiding Executive impunity.
However, the Judiciary firmly asserted that it has no role in the swearing-in of Cabinet and other state appointees, and no Judiciary official was involved in the State House swearing-in ceremony for the 50 CAS.
As this issue unfolds, the nation awaits Citizen TV’s response, while the Judiciary stands firm in its pursuit of the truth and restoration of its reputation.
