Leadership is about service, not titles. It’s about standing with the people, especially during their most vulnerable moments.

Yet, the people of Kanduyi Sub-county were left disappointed by their Member of Parliament, John Makali, when he failed to show up for one of his own constituents in a time of deep need.

The tragic drowning of Millicent Lubisia in Malindi was a devastating blow to her family in Dorofu, West Sangalo Ward.

Struggling to raise funds to bring their daughter’s body back home for burial, the family reached out to local leaders and aspirants for help.

But what did they receive in return? Silence.

While Makali turned a blind eye, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, from a completely different constituency, came to their rescue.

Barasa not only answered their call for help but also went above and beyond, personally covering all expenses to ensure Millicent’s remains could be transported back to Bungoma for a proper burial.

This act of kindness speaks volumes about Barasa’s character and raises serious questions about Makali’s priorities.

How could an MP, elected by the people of Kanduyi to represent and serve them, fail so miserably? Was it ignorance, indifference, or simply a lack of compassion?

The people of Kanduyi deserve answers. They deserve a leader who doesn’t just show up during campaign season but one who genuinely cares about their struggles.

It is embarrassing that a leader from another constituency had to step in and fulfill a role that rightfully belonged to Makali.

Meanwhile, Makali’s absence in this situation exposes the cracks in his leadership and the urgent need for accountability.

The people of Kanduyi must remember this moment come the 2027 elections.

A leader who cannot support his constituents during their darkest hour does not deserve to hold public office.

Makali, it’s time to step up or step aside.
