He expressed gratitude to Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika for her efforts in reinstating matatus into the Central Business District (CBD) after their relocation due to COVID-19. He thanked her for honoring the collective bargaining agreement and for allocating two seats in the Nakuru City Board, fulfilling promises made during her campaign.

Governor Kihika’s intervention, initiated after her inauguration on August 25, included the formation of a task force to address operational challenges faced by the matatu sector. She also directed a 100 percent waiver on all unpaid parking charges, totaling Sh 142 million, from August to September.

“This intervention will afford the sector an opportunity to recover and engage further with my government,” Governor Kihika stated at the time.

In a recent tour of Nakuru CBD, Governor Kihika assured matatu owners that stages would not be moved again, emphasizing her commitment to a vibrant city. She waived arrears for most matatus and minibuses, as well as the registration fee of Ksh 2000, a decision lauded by Mr. Kariuki, a matatu driver.
