Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has taken a monumental step in addressing Kenya’s perennial blood shortage by acquiring a state-of-the-art blood screening machine.

Previously, the entire country relied on just four blood screening centers located in Nairobi (Kenya National Blood Transfusion and Tissue Transplant Services, KNTBS), Eldoret, Kisumu, and Mombasa.

The new machine, capable of screening 5,000 units of blood daily, will serve the whole nation, drastically improving the efficiency of blood screening and ensuring a steady supply for medical needs across Kenya.

This achievement is a product of a collaborative effort between Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and the Nairobi County Government under Governor Johnson Sakaja’s leadership.

Dr  Martin Wafula, the CEO of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, expressed his gratitude for the support received from the county government. “This machine marks a new chapter in Kenya’s healthcare. With its capability, we can address the issue of blood shortages and save countless lives,” he said.

Governor Sakaja lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of partnerships in enhancing healthcare. “Our collaboration with Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital demonstrates our commitment to improving health services for Nairobi residents and Kenyans at large,” he stated.

The machine’s installation is expected to streamline blood donation and transfusion processes, bolstering healthcare delivery across the country.
