Mama Lucy Hospital has taken a significant step in improving neonatal care with the introduction of Kangaroo Mother and Father Care, a specialized service aimed at helping parents care for their newborns effectively.

Speaking during the launch last week, Dr. Martin Wafula, CEO of Mama Lucy Hospital, emphasized that the program was initially focused on mothers but has now been expanded to include fathers.

“We are now teaching fathers how to care for their babies, especially in cases where the mother is unavailable. This ensures that newborns receive the warmth and closeness they need, just like a kangaroo nurtures its young,” he explained.

In addition to the hands-on parenting training, the hospital has invested in advanced equipment to monitor the well-being of newborns, ensuring that young parents who may lack prior experience receive the necessary support.

To further ease access to healthcare, Mama Lucy Hospital has introduced  telemedicine services, allowing parents to consult doctors remotely.

“With this system, parents can report any abnormalities in their babies without necessarily visiting the hospital, making healthcare more accessible and convenient,” Dr. Wafula added.

This initiative aligns with the hospital’s mission to enhance neonatal care and make parenthood easier for families in Nairobi and beyond.
