Mama Lucy Hospital Partners with Top Universities to Combat Neonatal Mortality

Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital has taken a bold step in the fight against neonatal mortality by partnering with Aga Khan University, Indiana University, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to conduct crucial research on infant deaths and strategies to curb them.
The collaboration, announced by Mama Lucy CEO Martin Wafula, aims to enhance neonatal and pediatric care through research, training, and investment.

As part of the initiative, more than 100 healthcare staff from Mama Lucy have been selected for specialized training in neonatal and pediatric management, equipping them with the latest skills and knowledge to save young lives.
In addition, the hospital has received $58,000 to boost its neonatal and pediatric care units.
These funds will be used to upgrade medical equipment, improve facilities, and support ongoing research efforts
Speaking during the partnership launch, Helen Nabwera, a representative from Aga Khan University, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in reducing neonatal mortality rates.
She expressed confidence that the joint research and enhanced training would yield significant improvements in infant care.
CEO Martin Wafula reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for mothers and babies, noting that the partnership marks a new era for Mama Lucy in tackling preventable infant deaths.
“We are dedicated to strengthening our neonatal and pediatric services. This partnership not only brings valuable expertise but also the resources needed to make a lasting impact,” said Wafula.
