In a tragic incident that has left the community in shock, a man lost his life by suicide in Uriri, Migori County, allegedly due to his wife’s refusal to cook chicken at their residence.

Nyaobe Assistant Chief, John Atonya, provided details of the incident, revealing that the 45-year-old individual, identified as John Rugala, barricaded himself inside their home before igniting a fire.
Atonya disclosed that it was purportedly triggered by his wife’s rejection to prepare the desired poultry dish for him.
According to Atonya, the situation escalated when the wife insisted that Rugala obtain permission from their daughter, who happened to be the owner of the chicken in question.
Feeling resentful and angered by the request, the man expressed his discontent, ultimately resulting in a heart-wrenching turn of events.
Prior to taking his own life, the deceased reportedly sent his wife away, leaving her helpless as he carried out the tragic act.
Despite the immediate response from concerned members of the public who rushed to extinguish the flames, their efforts proved to be in vain.
Atonya further conveyed that the deceased’s body has been transported to the mortuary at Migori Level Four Hospital, where it awaits postmortem examination as part of the ongoing police investigations.
