Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Kathambi has launched a boundary survey to demarcate the East Mau Forest and surrounding settlement schemes in Njoro and Molo constituencies.

The exercise comes as part of the government’s response to a ruling by the Environment and Land Court (ELC), delivered on September 30, 2024.

In the ruling, the court reaffirmed the legitimacy of Legal Notice No. 142 of October 8, 2001, which had never been revoked.

The court ordered the government to implement the notice by establishing clear and visible forest boundaries within 12 months, including placing physical beacons on the ground in affected settlement schemes.

Speaking during the launch, MP Kathambi emphasized the importance of the exercise in promoting peaceful coexistence and protecting both the environment and the rights of local residents.

Present during the launch were key local leaders and officials, including the Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) of Njoro and Molo, the Officers Commanding Police Divisions (OCPDs), and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Nessuit, Mauche, Marishoni, and Kiptororo wards.

The boundary survey aims to bring lasting solutions to long-standing disputes involving forest conservation and human settlement in the East Mau region.
