Nakuru Artists Expose County Official for Issuing Fake Cheque, Demand Accountability

Read Time:2 Minute, 9 Second

Nakuru County’s arts community is in an uproar after two local musicians, Sammy G and his colleague Jose Kaleson, publicly named Hon. Josephine Atieno Achieng, a County Executive Committee (CEC) member, as the source of a fake cheque given to them during a recent event.

The cheque, meant to support their upcoming music projects, has caused outrage after it was discovered to be invalid.

In a Facebook  post that has since gone viral, the artists shared their frustration, attaching a copy of the cheque containing Achieng’s full name, signature, and account details.

The duo revealed that they had been promised funding for three projects during the event but have encountered nothing but silence and avoidance from the CEC official.

The artists claimed they followed up with Achieng, who initially assured them the issue would be resolved.

However, despite agreeing to meet on September 17, 2024, at her office to collect the cash, Achieng failed to show up and has since stopped responding to their calls.

“We have been trying to follow up on the matter, but instead of addressing it, she has gone silent,” Sammy G posted. He also expressed anger over accusations that the popular content creator Presenter Kai, who helped organize the event, is being blamed for the debacle. “Kai’s name is being dragged through the mud for simply speaking the truth. We stand by him, and if our names are ruined, so be it.”

The artists also addressed misleading claims from Achieng’s team, which alleged that the musicians had received a cheque of KSh 50,000 and KSh 100,000 in cash. They firmly denied these assertions, stating that the cheque they received was fake, and no cash had been given.

In their post, they urged Hon. Achieng to come clean about whether they would ever receive the promised funds. “Madam Josephine, tell us if we aren’t getting the money, and we will accept it. But this has to stop if creatives are to grow,” they added.

The post concluded with a powerful statement on corruption and the need for talent to be nurtured: “If I am caught stealing today, I’ll be shot, but when a politician steals, nothing happens. To reduce crime, support talent.”

The pressure is mounting on Hon. Achieng to address the matter publicly.

The artists and Presenter Kai are now demanding that the Nakuru County government take swift action to resolve the issue and prevent further damage to the reputation of local creatives.

Efforts to reach Hon. Josephine Atieno Achieng for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
