Nakuru County Hosts USAID Partners for USAWA Health Communication Workshop

Nakuru County has officially welcomed stakeholders to the USAID USAWA Communications Co-Creation Workshop at Lemaiyan Suites in Naivasha.
This significant event gathers key representatives from Isiolo, Kakamega, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Nakuru counties to collaborate on enhancing health communication and governance across Kenya, with the goal of driving positive public health outcomes.
In her opening remarks, Queenter Mbori, Executive Director of the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK), emphasized the essential role of communication in public health.
“Communication informs, educates, and engages the public, ensuring that people in our communities not only receive important health information but are also empowered to take informed actions,” she said, underscoring the importance of stakeholder involvement.
Nakuru County’s Chief Officer of ICT, E-Government & Public Communication, Catherine Changwony, also addressed the attendees.
She highlighted the importance of robust communication networks in improving public health, stating, “Health communication is a vital tool in ensuring that the right messages reach our people in a timely, effective manner.”
Changwony thanked USAID and AMWIK for their leadership in uniting counties to tackle these pressing health issues.
The workshop aims to address public health challenges, including the ongoing Mpox outbreak, for which the government has allocated Ksh 6.7 billion.
Discussions will center around improving media engagement, addressing communication gaps, and ensuring accountability in health governance through strengthened county collaborations.
Representatives from Global Compact Network Kenya, the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya, Transparency International Kenya, county communication officers, and journalists were also present, contributing to the collaborative spirit of the workshop.
Participants are expected to leave with enhanced strategies to improve communication flows and build healthier, better-informed communities across Kenya.
