Nakuru County Scandal: Governor Susan Kihika Under Fire as Senator Keroche Calls for Accountability

Nakuru County is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, as allegations of procurement fraud involving senior county officials continue to surface.
The scandal, which has rocked the county, centers on claims that top officials, including the County Secretary (CS), County Executive Committee Members (CECMs), and Chief Officers (COs), allegedly used their companies or proxies to embezzle millions of shillings meant for sports equipment procurement.
The equipment, allegedly bought at exaggerated prices and of substandard quality, has raised serious questions about the integrity of the procurement process.
The scandal reportedly occurred under the watch of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, who now faces mounting pressure to address the allegations.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) South Rift Regional Office has launched investigations into the matter.
Senator Keroche of Nakuru County, taking to her Facebook account, expressed her disappointment and urged the EACC to expedite its investigation and ensure those involved face justice.
Senator Keroche also called for the implicated officials, led by the County Secretary, CECMs, and COs, to step down during the investigations to prevent any potential interference.
“As the Senator of Nakuru County, mandated by the people to perform an oversight role, I will move swiftly to fulfill my constitutional duties. I will ensure that the truth concerning the alleged fraud is uncovered, and the guilty parties face the consequences of their actions,” Senator Keroche stated.
Senator Keroche further announced her intention to petition the Senate’s Sports Committee to summon Governor Susan Kihika and the sports department for questioning.
The senator posed a critical question: “Where was the Governor of Nakuru County when all these scandals were happening? What is her take on the allegations against her senior county officials? Will she ask them to take responsibility and step down, or will she fire them?”
