Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Keroche has praised members of the County Assembly (MCAs) for their decisive move to impeach Nakuru County Assembly Majority Leader Alex Langat.

The senator attributed the county’s developmental stagnation and ineffective oversight to Langat’s leadership, accusing him of acting as a puppet of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

Speaking at the consecration ceremony of Bishop Francis Mwangi Karuga of Holy Spirit Churches of God, held at Njoro Day Secondary School on September 11, Karanja emphasized the need for strong, independent leadership in the county assembly.

She linked Langat’s removal to Governor Kihika’s undue influence over the assembly, citing the passage of punitive bills under his leadership.

Karanja commended the MCAs for taking the first step toward restoring proper governance by ousting Langat and urged them to continue their efforts by impeaching incompetent County Executive Committee Members (CECM).

She expressed her readiness to collaborate with elected leaders in Nakuru, in line with President William Ruto’s directive for leaders to work together within the broad-based government framework.

The decision to remove Langat was reached in a meeting of United Democratic Alliance (UDA)-affiliated MCAs held on September 9, as detailed in a letter signed by Biashara Ward MCA, Fadhili Msuri.

The letter, addressed to the Speaker, noted that all 31 UDA County Representatives unanimously voted to oust Langat.

Among the grievances raised was Langat’s failure to convene meetings of the Majority Party MCAs for two years, denying members the opportunity to discuss party matters.

Msuri also accused Langat of obstructing the MCAs’ oversight role by shielding corrupt individuals within the Nakuru County Government, citing his involvement in defeating a recent motion to impeach County Government Secretary Samuel Mwaura.

The MCAs now aim to enhance their oversight and legislative functions following Langat’s removal, which they argue will pave the way for greater accountability and development in Nakuru.
