Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja Emphasizes Oversight Role While MP Samuel Arama Defends Governor Kihika

During a recent fundraising ceremony hosted by Holy Cross Church in Shabaab Ward, Nakuru, Senator Tabitha Karanja passionately defended her role as a senator, emphasizing the importance of oversight and representing the interests of the counties and their governments.
She also addressed her involvement in advocating for fair treatment of Nakuru Level six medics.
In her speech, Senator Karanja addressed the growing calls for her to allow Governor Kihika to carry out her duties without interference.
She explained, “My role as a senator encompasses oversight and participation in the law-making process, including the allocation of national revenue among counties. It’s essential for me to ensure that the interests of Nakuru County and its government are well-represented.”
Senator Karanja also recalled a previous incident where she received medics from Nakuru Level six hospital who had been dismissed from their jobs.
She generated a statement to advise the County government on the matter but faced backlash for her efforts.
She clarified, “Those who criticized me did not understand that I was fulfilling my oversight duties. I will continue to follow up on the funds allocated to Nakuru County to ensure they are used appropriately.”
In contrast, MP Samuel Arama, who was representing Governor Kihika at the event, took the opportunity to address the audience.
He urged for transparency and an end to political posturing, stating, “The national government provides funds with a special formula and framework to ensure proper spending and prevent misappropriation. Let us focus on facts and not engage in unnecessary politicking.”
Regarding the medics’ issue, MP Arama provided clarity, saying, “It’s important to remember that the medical jobs in question were on a contract basis. When contracts expire, they can be renewed. Therefore, it is inaccurate to claim that anyone was unfairly sacked.”
