Nightmare in Nakuru, Rongai as Two Women Found Brutally Murdered

Read Time:1 Minute, 57 Second

Tragedy struck Kalyet Estate in Rongai Sub-County when the lifeless body of Florence Mueni, a 34-year-old banker, was found in a maize plantation on Wednesday, one kilometer from her home. Mueni, who had left for work on Tuesday morning, had returned home to check on her ailing three-year-old son but never arrived.

Her husband, Erick Mureithi, shared the heartbreaking news that Mueni had been brutally assaulted, with evidence of rape, mutilation, and strangulation.

Her body showed severe head injuries, and her ears and right thumb were missing. Her personal belongings were scattered around the scene.

“On Tuesday, I texted my wife at around 9 a.m. to check on our son’s condition, and she replied at 11 a.m.

That was our last conversation,” Mureithi recalled. Working in the Nyanza region, Mureithi received a distressing call from their 11-year-old son around 10 p.m., reporting that Mueni was not home and her phone was off.

Efforts to reach her through family and colleagues yielded no information. On Wednesday, Mureithi traveled to Nakuru and reported her missing at Nakuru Central Police Station, where he was advised to wait 24 hours before filing a formal report.

However, later that day, he was contacted by the area assistant chief and informed of a body found in a maize plantation, confirming his worst fears.

“We conducted a postmortem on Thursday, and the pathologist confirmed that her ears were chopped off while she was alive, and her right thumb is still missing,” Mureithi said. Describing his wife as a loving mother, devoted wife, and family pillar, he lamented the void her loss has created.

Tragically, another body was discovered in the Kiamunyi area on Thursday. Vera Mugambi, a 30-year-old food vendor, was found dead in a maize plantation.

Mugambi had gone missing on Wednesday after delivering food to casual laborers. She, too, had been raped and killed, with multiple facial injuries and stab wounds.

Rongai’s Director of Criminal Investigations, Donater Otieno, confirmed that both killings occurred elsewhere and the bodies were later dumped in the plantations. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.

These incidents follow the gruesome discovery of five-year-old Alice Ayuma Blessings, who was found defiled and murdered in a nearby maize plantation on July 15.
