As the 2027 general election draws closer, political activities are already picking up in Nakuru Town West. The constituency, one of the most densely populated in Nakuru County, is expected to see a hotly contested parliamentary race. While the current leadership has held ground for years, growing dissatisfaction among voters is opening the door for new contenders. One such candidate gaining attention is Robinas Makana, popularly known as “Jembe Mpya.”
Makana is not just another name in the race. His early entry, community engagements, and clear focus on development are positioning him as a serious alternative to the incumbent. Residents from areas like Kaptembwo, Rhonda, London, Kapkures, Baruti etc are beginning to notice.
Makana comes into the race with a strong academic background in business management and experience both in public service and private enterprise. This combination of knowledge and leadership gives him an edge when it comes to understanding real-world challenges facing his constituents. His message focuses on practical issues like infrastructure, youth employment, healthcare, small business support, and security.
Unlike many politicians who wait until the last minute to campaign, Makana has taken a different route. He has been visiting churches, speaking to youth groups, attending community meetings, and engaging women traders in markets. During a recent visit to Stage 140, he received a warm reception, with local women spontaneously endorsing him with chants of “Makana tosha.” This early groundwork shows that he is not taking voters for granted.
The name “Jembe Mpya,” which translates to “a new hoe,” is catching on because it speaks to people’s desire for fresh leadership. It symbolises a break from old politics and a chance to dig up problems that have been left untouched for too long.
Makana has also steered clear of controversial political alignments. While other aspirants are reportedly aligning themselves with powerful figures at the national level in the hope of securing party nominations, Makana is focused on the people. His message is local, and his campaign is rooted in what matters most to residents of Nakuru Town West.
As the race shapes up, Makana will still need to stay consistent, continue engaging voters, and avoid being pulled into political sideshows. But so far, he has shown that he understands the needs of the people and is willing to work from the ground up.
If his current momentum continues, Robinas “Jembe Mpya” Makana could become a strong contender in 2027, and possibly, the next Member of Parliament for Nakuru Town West.
