Former Shabab MCA Daniel Kamau’s sudden passing on Sunday left many Nakuru residents in shock and mourning, as they remembered a leader described as charismatic, outspoken, and humble.

The tragic news spread quickly, leading to an outpouring of grief in the Shabab area, where Kamau was highly regarded.

In a gesture of solidarity, Kenyan President William Ruto has donated Ksh 500,000 to assist with Kamau’s funeral arrangements. The generous contribution was delivered through Nakuru First Gentleman Sam Mburu, the husband of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika. The President’s donation came at a crucial time as the family and community prepare to lay the former MCA to rest.

Governor Susan Kihika and her husband, Sam Mburu, added their own contribution of Ksh 200,000 to the cause. In addition to their financial support, they offered free transportation and meals for mourners traveling to Murang’a, where Kamau will be buried.

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, Kamau’s political rival in the 2022 general elections, also donated Ksh 100,000 to help ease the burden on Kamau’s family.

Kamau, who was involved in a fatal road accident on Sunday, had spent most of the day at a meeting in Oljorai, accompanied by former Nakuru East MCA, Humphrey Mwaniki, alias Sonko. The details of the accident remain unclear, but his untimely death has left many locals questioning the tragic event that took the life of such a prominent leader.

Kamau’s political career is remembered for his close contest with MP Samuel Arama in the 2022 general elections for the Nakuru Town West parliamentary seat. Representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, Kamau came in second, securing 29,045 votes, while Arama, running on a Jubilee Party ticket, garnered 34,936 votes.

The funeral is expected to draw a large crowd, as Kamau was widely loved and respected. Residents are preparing to travel to Murang’a, where the burial will take place, with transportation logistics already being handled by the local leaders.
