A section of Nakuru residents has praised Generation Z for their efforts to liberate the country from economic hardship.
Many of these residents, who were part of the fight for democracy and the second liberation in Kenya, believe that the current actions of the younger generation represent a crucial ‘economic liberation.’
Addressing journalists in Nakuru, the residents, led by Harrison Muiruri, drew parallels between today’s economic struggles and the past fight for multiparty democracy. Muiruri emphasized that the second liberation occurred during their youth and encouraged Generation Z not to give up their economic liberation push, citing the country’s dire economic situation.
“Kenya has reached a point of no return,” Muiruri said. “It is time to support Generation Z in their pursuit of economic liberation.”
Muiruri noted that workers are experiencing harsh economic times and should, therefore, join Generation Z on Saba Saba for a joint march to deliver a message to the current government.
“We are ready to join Generation Z in their push for economic liberation and urge all workers to participate in a mega march on Saba Saba Day,” he stated.
Francis Kariuki, a Nakuru resident since 1974, echoed Muiruri’s sentiments. He highlighted the youth’s pivotal role in driving economic liberation for the country and called on all workers to support Generation Z on Saba Saba.
“We support Generation Z for their noble cause of freeing Kenya from economic bondage,” Kariuki affirmed.
Mary Kimani urged goons to stop interfering with Generation Z and called on President William Ruto to tackle corruption within his administration. She criticized the government for its harshness towards the people and stressed the need for addressing corruption to facilitate development.
“The government should address the issue of corruption so that we can have development,” she said.
These sentiments come just days after opinion leaders and unionists urged Kenyan workers to join Generation Z on July 7, 2024, for the Saba Saba mega march.
Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity, former Secretary General of the Kenya Civil Servants Union and current Member of the Presidential Advisory Board of the Republican National Committee, USA, noted that Generation Z is receiving widespread support from Kenyans in their fight against corruption, which has devastated the country.
According to Dr. Kinity, Generation Z’s struggle is about saving workers from the agony of unbearable taxation, as some Gen Z members are workers suffering under President William Ruto’s regime.
“I am praying hard for the total success of Generation Z in their current struggle to liberate Kenya’s economy,” Dr. Kinity said.
Generation Z’s peaceful demonstrations began as a move to protest the punitive Finance Bill 2024 and corruption. Despite President William Ruto’s refusal to sign the bill, Generation Z maintains that the peaceful demonstrations will continue until the country achieves economic liberation.
