Senator Okiya Omtatah Roasts Governor Kihika Over Defense of PPPs and Adani Deal

Senator Okiya Omtatah didn’t hold back in his response to Governor Susan Kihika’s recent Facebook post defending the government’s use of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to fund crucial infrastructure projects in Kenya.
While Kihika called for public support of PPPs to address funding constraints, Omtatah’s sharp critique pinpointed what he argued was the real issue: corruption and ethics among the private partners involved.
Governor Kihika’s original post highlighted her frustration over public opposition to PPPs, even as Kenyans reject additional borrowing and taxation.
Using examples of successful PPPs from around the world, she defended the financing model as an essential solution for projects like Nakuru’s road networks, the Itaare Dam, and Lanet Airport.
But Senator Omtatah’s replied arguing that the problem isn’t with PPPs themselves but with unethical private partners like Adani, whose reputation has sparked outrage among Kenyans.
“Madam Governor, you still don’t get it, even after Kenyans have screamed it at the top of their voices,” he began. “The issue is not PPPs. In fact, we all welcome PPPs wholeheartedly. The issue is ADANI.”
Omtatah didn’t mince words, emphasizing that the real “unpatriotic” actors are corrupt individuals whose actions, he argued, “are stealing the future of this country.”
His statement counters Kihika’s characterization of public criticism as “negativity” and “cynicism,” instead framing it as a justified response to perceived governmental collusion with unethical corporations.
Omtatah’s stance highlights a deeper distrust of private entities that are seen as exploiting public funds for profit rather than aiding Kenya’s development.
