A scandal has rocked Kipsapta village, Nyota ward, Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, as two men engaged in an unprecedented exchange of wives over infidelity issues.
Elders, led by Nyumba Kumi chair David Rono, convened an emergency meeting on Saturday to address the shocking incident.
Expressing their dismay, the elders condemned the actions, emphasizing the rarity of such occurrences, not just within Kipsapta but also within the wider Kalenjin community.
“We, as elders, are deeply troubled by this incident. It is unprecedented, and we have scheduled a comprehensive discussion for Monday to thoroughly address this matter,” remarked Rono.
The saga began when Robert Kiruo’s wife deserted him, leaving behind their two daughters, after a disagreement. Despite Kiruo’s attempts to seek intervention from village elders over a span of five months, his efforts were futile. Frustrated, he decided to retaliate by taking the wife of the man with whom his wife had eloped.
“When I discovered that the man had taken my wife, I decided to seek vengeance by taking his wife. Remarkably, his wife agreed, as we were both grappling with issues of spousal infidelity,” revealed Robert.
The elders have vowed to reconvene on Monday to devise a strategy to address the escalating situation before it exacerbates tensions between the two families, potentially leading to further conflict.
Notably, both wives have young daughters under the age of 10. While the wives have relocated, the children remain in their respective homes, albeit with different mothers.
