Shocking Exposé: Ksh 8M Fund Meant for Londiani Crash Victims Squandered! Officials Face Investigation!

Read Time:2 Minute, 9 Second

In a shocking revelation at the County Assembly on October 18, 2022, Kericho Deputy Governor Fred Kirui exposed the misappropriation of a staggering Ksh13.7 million that was raised for the victims of the tragic Londiani Junction accident.

Kirui passionately called for an immediate investigation into the county government officials responsible for this heinous act of squandering funds meant for grieving families.

Expressing his deep concern and empathy for the victims, Kirui disclosed that only Ksh5.7 million out of the raised amount actually reached the families affected by the tragedy.

Disturbingly, even after Ksh3.5 million was allocated for hospital bills and mortuary expenses, there remains an alarming void in the trail of the remaining money.

“The Deputy President (Rigathi Gachagua) was sent by the President (William Ruto) during the fundraising of the victims. The shocking part is that the money raised by county governments from various corners of the country was misappropriated without a clear trace. The budget used was not planned for and it is my wish that the money be refunded and given to the rightful families because that is theft,” Kirui asserted, demanding accountability and justice for the affected families.

The families of the 53 victims who lost their lives in the accident were given a mere Ksh90,000 each, while those who were injured received Ksh60,000 each.

This allocation starkly contrasts with the initial plan, which promised Ksh300,000 compensation for each bereaved family and Ksh200,000 for each hospitalized individual.

Prior to the misappropriation, Kericho Governor Eric Mutai had publicly pledged to waive both the hospital and mortuary bills for the victims’ families.

Unfortunately, the funds were diverted elsewhere, with Ksh2.9 million going to a tent company and Ksh423,000 allocated for unfair transport, refreshments, and printing expenses within the County Public Service management.

Additionally, Ksh411,000 was paid to another company for providing tents at a Kericho hotel, and Ksh100,000 was spent on lunch for 100 people.

Shockingly, even the County Commissioner received Ksh300,000 for fuel, lunch, and allowances for his team, all at the expense of the victims and their families.

“The misappropriation of funds by the county officials is so unfair and inconsiderate. The people behind it should be brought to book,” Kirui concluded with a resounding call for accountability and justice.

Shocking revelations of misused funds, bereaved families denied rightful compensation, and officials escaping accountability—this scandalous story will leave you outraged and demanding justice for the Londiani crash victims!
