Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s unannounced rendezvous with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday, August 5, 2023, has left tongues wagging. Kenyatta’s office has finally spilled the beans on the purpose behind this top-secret summit.
Reports confirm that Uhuru Kenyatta, acting as the lead facilitator for peace talks in the volatile Democratic Republic of Congo, personally traveled to Uganda to strategize with Museveni.
Directly from the horse’s mouth, the former Head of State shared details about the ongoing peace process in the Eastern region of the war-torn Congo.
During their covert meeting, Kenyatta and Museveni, two prominent figures in African politics, dived deep into discussions concerning the security landscape of the East African Community (EAC) region.
The two visionary leaders also mapped out a comprehensive plan to bring about lasting peace and stability to the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
An official statement from Uhuru’s office confirmed, “Former Head of State and Facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta earlier today, paid a courtesy call on President Kaguta Museveni of Uganda at State House, Entebbe. Besides the security situation in the EAC region, the two leaders deliberated on the ongoing Peace Processes geared towards the realization of a lasting peace and stability in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
The high-level meeting also saw the presence of key figures including Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. John Mulimba, Ambassador Macharia Kamau, and Brigadier (Rtd) Elijah Mwanyika.
This significant revelation follows Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent appointment as a peace envoy to conflict-ridden areas within Africa by President William Ruto.
The Deputy President, in his statement, commended Uhuru’s impressive track record in steering peace initiatives across Ethiopia and the Great Lakes Region.
“On the peace initiatives in our region including both in Ethiopia and the Great Lakes Region, I have asked my elder brother President Uhuru Kenyatta who has done commendable engagement with those regions and he has graciously agreed to continue chairing those discussions on behalf of the people of Kenya,” Ruto proclaimed during the appointment.
