Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has issued a strong warning to the Azimio protesters scheduled to demonstrate on Wednesday. He emphasized that if they proceed with their plans for violent protests on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, they will face prosecution.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kindiki stated that security forces have been deployed to prevent any potential violence. He asserted, “National security agencies have mobilized all available resources to ensure that the disturbances witnessed on Wednesday do not recur. Anyone intending to instigate violence against Kenyans is hereby cautioned to stop immediately.”
The CS further highlighted that Nairobi and other cities in the country experienced violence, disorder, and significant damage to both private and public property during the rallies that took place on July 12.
“Those responsible for the destruction claimed to be exercising their constitutional rights and freedoms. The nation was on the verge of descending into complete chaos fueled by criminal elements exploiting the pretext of Article 37, which guarantees the right to assemble, demonstrate, picket, and petition public authorities,” he explained.
CS Kindiki also reassured Kenyans about their safety and encouraged them to continue with their daily activities as usual. He advised individuals participating in demonstrations to adhere to the law and ensure they do not violate the rights of others.
