Trump Was Right to Halt Aid to Kenya, Says Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity

Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to stop aid to Kenya was justified, according to human rights activist Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity. In a strongly worded statement, Dr. Kinity decried the rampant looting of grants and loans meant for Kenya, asserting that the funds rarely reach the common Kenyan and are instead stolen by corrupt leaders who stash the money in foreign bank accounts.
Billions in Unaccounted Grants
Dr. Kinity pointed out that Kenya has received billions of dollars in grants annually, yet these funds are not publicly accounted for during budget readings. Instead, Kenyans are consistently reminded of the country’s growing debt burden while being kept in the dark about the substantial grants that do not require repayment.
“The Kenyan government has always hidden the grants from the public. These funds are never used for national development but are instead looted and transferred to offshore bank accounts owned by Kenyan leaders,” said Dr. Kinity.
According to him, if these funds had been used appropriately, Kenyans would not be suffering from poverty, inadequate healthcare, and a failing infrastructure. He called for a complete audit of all grants received and for the looted money to be repatriated to serve its intended purpose.
The Cost of Corruption
Corruption has remained one of Kenya’s biggest challenges, with billions of shillings disappearing from public coffers. Dr. Kinity insisted that until Kenya deals decisively with corruption at the highest levels, no more grants should be given to the country. He proposed that before further foreign aid is considered, all stolen funds must be returned, and those responsible should face prosecution.
“We are talking about trillions of shillings in stolen public funds, most of which were initially grants meant to help the common Kenyan. This money should be retrieved and used to develop the country,” he stated.
Oscar Sudi’s Controversial Display of Wealth
Dr. Kinity specifically mentioned Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi as an example of unchecked corruption. Sudi recently sparked public outrage after flaunting a designer wristwatch worth Kshs. 17 million ($170,000), an amount that Dr. Kinity suggests may have come from stolen public funds.
“Imagine a close ally of President William Ruto openly boasting about buying a single watch for $170,000 when millions of Kenyans are struggling to put food on the table. This is a clear reflection of the impunity with which corrupt leaders operate in Kenya,” he said.
Dr. Kinity criticized the United States and other donor countries for continuing to provide financial assistance to Kenya despite overwhelming evidence of corruption. “No other country would allow its taxpayers’ money to be looted this way. The American people work hard to pay taxes, only for their money to end up in the pockets of a few corrupt Kenyan politicians,” he said.
Calls for Action
Dr. Kinity urged Kenyans to rise against corruption, emphasizing that only by holding leaders accountable can the country progress. He called for stringent measures to recover stolen public funds and to ensure that future aid directly benefits the citizens.
“The looting of public funds must stop. Corrupt leaders must be weeded out for Kenya to prosper and gain the respect of other nations,” he concluded.
