The Turkana County Government has launched a relief food distribution exercise aimed at assisting vulnerable communities in Suguta Sub-County, one of the most remote and insecure regions in the county.

Suguta, a newly established sub-county carved from Turkana East, has been grappling with recurrent food shortages due to harsh climatic conditions and security challenges.
Chief Officer for Administration and Disaster Management, David Maraka, confirmed that 150 bags of relief food would be distributed to both local communities and schools.
“The exercise targets areas such as Napeitom, Ngilukia, Kamuge, Silale, Kangayama, Nadome, Lomelo, Kapetasekon, and Emeyan. Additionally, Kapedo Mixed Primary and Kapedo Girls School are included in the distribution list,” Maraka stated.
In a significant move, members of neighboring counties, including Baringo, also benefited from the distribution.
“This is part of a strategic plan to foster cross-border solidarity and collaboratively address hunger,” said Maraka during the distribution at Kapedo.
He further emphasized that the exercise underscores the County Government’s commitment to supporting all its populations, including those in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the office of the area Member of Parliament, ensuring inclusivity in targeting the most affected populations.
The food distribution event was witnessed by Deputy County Commissioner of Kapedo, Franklin Okuta, area Police Commandant William Oyugi, and Sub-County Administrator
