Eugene Wamalwa, leader of the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), has called for the immediate separation of Azimio la Umoja constituent parties from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) due to Raila Odinga’s alleged alignment with the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a church service in Makongeni, Thika, Wamalwa asserted that Raila Odinga and his ODM party have become closely aligned with the government, making their role in the opposition untenable.
He compared the situation to a failing marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences” as a reason for the coalition’s breakdown.
“In marriage, when irreconcilable differences emerge, it leads to divorce. This is our situation with ODM. While they seem intent on saving Zakayo, we are focused on saving Kenya. We cannot stay together any longer,” Wamalwa declared.
He further accused ODM of being fully integrated into the Kenya Kwanza administration, pointing out that members of ODM have been appointed to key government positions, including Cabinet Secretary roles, and are seeking to influence other state positions.
“Team Okoa Zakayo (ODM), we wish you well in your endeavors with the government. But as for us, we will remain steadfast with the people of Kenya,” he added.
Wamalwa also expressed disappointment with other Azimio leaders who downplay the growing discord within the coalition.
He highlighted the recent departures of key figures such as Martha Karua, who has returned to Narc Kenya, and Peter Munya, who is reportedly considering leaving PNU, as evidence of the coalition’s internal strife.
“We must be honest with Kenyans. All is not well within Azimio. While some of us are saying that Zakayo must go, others are insistent that he should stay,” Wamalwa concluded.
