Detectives are currently detaining a female suspect, Cynthia Lusega Andalo, in connection with the gruesome murder of Eric Maigo, the Acting Finance Director of Nairobi Hospital.
She was arrested and brought before the court through a miscellaneous application on Monday afternoon, where authorities were granted permission to detain her for five days while investigations continue.
Investigators suspect that Andalo might have had some knowledge of or association with the main suspect, as they were together earlier on the night of Maigo’s murder at his residence in Woodley.
Furthermore, it has been discovered that Maigo’s assailant used two kitchen knives during the fatal attack in his bedroom.
Evidence from phone records and CCTV footage analysis indicates that Maigo was last seen at a newly opened entertainment club along Ngong Road on Thursday evening.
At the club, he interacted with three women, including Andalo. Police visited the club as part of their efforts to identify all individuals who had contact with Maigo that evening, leading to the identification of Andalo. The two other women, including the main suspect, remain unidentified at this point.
An examination of Maigo’s mobile phone records revealed that he had sent money to various individuals on the day of his death, including a transaction of Ksh.650 to Andalo.
According to police findings, Maigo was later observed leaving the club in the company of a woman believed to be the main suspect.
Phone records suggest that they proceeded to another entertainment venue along Kilimani Road before returning to Maigo’s residence around 10:15 pm.
Two kitchen knives, which bore similar sets of fingerprints, were recovered near Maigo’s lifeless body. However, detectives are still working to determine whether the assailant used both knives simultaneously or one after the other.
Given that nothing appeared to have been stolen from Maigo’s house and the presence of 25 stab wounds on his chest, neck, and face, detectives are leaning towards a motive of passion or intense rage behind the crime.
Samples have been collected from Maigo’s body for further analysis and toxicology tests to ascertain whether he was poisoned prior to the murder, as there were no signs of defensive injuries.
