Why You Need To Prioritize Breast Cancer Testing Early

In the Nakuru Breast Cancer Awareness Walk 2023, survivors from Nakuru County, along with the County Government, marched through the streets of Nakuru to emphasize the importance of breast cancer screenings for both men and women.

Chief Executive Council Member for health in Nakuru County (CECM) Jackline Osoro, spearheaded this initiative to support those affected by breast cancer.

During her speech, she announced plans for mobile testing, offering testing opportunities to those interested.

October, being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, provides an opportunity for survivors to share their journeys, offering hope for those battling breast cancer.

It is crucial to note that breast cancer affects both men and women, but early detection can lead to effective treatment.

County Secretary Samuel Mwaura, representing Governor Kihika, highlighted the financial strain cancer places on families when detected late.

He urged the community to prioritize cancer testing and emphasized its impact on both men and women.

Several organizations, including Women In Society Empowerment (WISE), Kenya Medical Association, and the Nakuru County Government Department of Health, collaborated to provide free wigs to cancer patients.

Dr. Felix, Chairman of Kenya Medical Association, explained their joint efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer.

He emphasized the importance of early detection, stating that early-stage cancers are treatable.

Breast cancer survivors shared their journeys, expressing the need for more financial support for NHIF cards and medications.

They called on the County Government to invest in human resources, ensuring timely services for patients.
