Presidential aspirant Dr Isaac Newton Kinity has issued a strong warning over Kenya’s future, saying the country could take more than 100 years to achieve meaningful development and prosperity if corruption is not confronted in the manner it deserves.
In a scathing assessment of Kenya’s political leadership, Dr Kinity argued that individuals who have looted massive amounts of public funds continue to dominate both the government and the opposition.
According to him, some politicians who served in previous administrations and were involved in the misuse and looting of public resources have since moved into the opposition, positioning themselves to return to power. He argued that their objective is not necessarily to bring change, but to regain their former positions, continue accessing public resources and protect themselves from accountability over past actions.
“Looters of public funds who have looted massive amounts of money in Kenya are dominating both the opposition and the government,” Dr Kinity said.
He further argued that Kenya must rethink the qualities it uses to identify and elect its leaders. According to the presidential aspirant, political experience and leadership skills should not automatically qualify an individual for leadership, particularly if that experience was acquired while serving in administrations associated with corruption.
Dr Kinity described corruption as the greatest obstacle to Kenya’s development and prosperity, warning that unless Kenyans deliberately place the fight against corruption at the centre of their political decisions, identifying leaders capable of transforming the country will remain almost impossible.
He argued that the continued recycling of leaders from previous and current administrations makes it difficult for Kenya to break away from its troubled past.
According to Dr Kinity, the political experience accumulated through the five administrations that have governed Kenya since independence has, in many instances, been characterised by the looting of public funds, land grabbing and extrajudicial killings.
He traced this history from the administration of Kenya’s first President, Jomo Kenyatta, through successive governments, to the current administration of President William Ruto.
“The political experiences and leadership skills from all the five administrations that have governed Kenya since independence are of looting public funds, grabbing land and extrajudicial killings, from the Jomo regime to the Ruto regime,” he said.
Dr Kinity now wants Kenyans to think more critically about corruption and move away from the continued recycling of leaders whose political careers have been shaped by previous administrations accused of corruption and abuse of public resources.
He warned that unless the country changes how it identifies and elects its leaders, Kenya risks remaining trapped in a cycle where individuals move between government and opposition, only to return to power and continue the same practices.
“It is time for Kenyans to change for the better,” Dr Kinity said, insisting that the fight against corruption must become the defining factor in Kenya’s search for a new generation of leadership.
The presidential aspirant’s remarks come amid continued public debate over corruption, accountability and the recycling of political leaders who have served in successive governments and later crossed into the opposition.
For Dr Kinity, Kenya’s path to prosperity will not be determined merely by political experience or leadership credentials, but by whether the country is willing to confront corruption and reject leaders associated with the misuse of public resources.
